Hello Future!
Primary School Residency 2016
Location: Currumbin Valley State School Brisbane
Company: Imaginary Theatre w/ Bleach Festival
Role: Co- creator, Curator, Facilitator.
Hello Future! was an Artist in Residence project in which year 2 & 3 students and teachers from Currumbin Valley State School and artists from Imaginary Theatre who worked together on this 10 week multi-arts learning collaboration, exploring potential futures, environment, citizenship, creativity and digital literacy. Artists, students and teachers worked together to create digital content, collated and shared online, as an digital time capsule for the future.
The Hello Future! content was also showcased in two public events in the form of digital street art installations. Artwork by and featuring our young artists lit up local buildings with animation, video and text which shone bright, towering above passers by as they stopped and stared at this street side spectacle. Meanwhile, wireless headphones carrying children’s voices with epic ideas for the future, asked their audiences to stop, listen, and reflect on the future of their communities.
At the first event, digital content created and curated by students in collaboration with artists & teachers was shown at Currumbin Valley State School in a special installation adventure for students, families, staff and the broader school community as a celebration of the opening of the school’s brand new building. At the second and third events, the Hello Future content appeared as a pop-up 'urban lounge room' at Broadbeach Mall as part of Bleach* Festival.
